About Us

  • 1988: Found by the Eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, the gallery was initially named "Muzium Kenangan" (Memorial Museum) and located at Jalan Kota, Kampung Jawa in Klang.

  • 2001: Upon Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's ascension as the Ninth Sultan of Selangor, he directed the transformation of the Sultan Suleiman Building, constructed in 1909, into the new Royal Gallery.

  • October 19, 2007: The Royal Gallery was officially inaugurated by H.R.H. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, in honor of his late father, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.

  • Historical Significance: The gallery showcases the rich history and heritage of the Selangor Sultanate, tracing its roots to the Bugis Sulawesi Royal family of Opu Tanreburung Daeng Relaka from the Malay Archipelago since 1766.

  • Building History: The gallery is housed in a classic colonial building erected in 1909, previously serving as a British land and administration office, a Japanese war headquarters during World War II, and later repurposed by various local authorities until its restoration into the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery.

  • Exhibits: Visitors gain insights into Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah's childhood, early years as a crown prince, military career, public offices, and his roles as the Eighth Sultan of Selangor (1960) and the Eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong (2001).

  • Royal Collections: The gallery features a range of magnificent personal collections, including artifacts and gifts, covering the period of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah's reign. Notable among these are replicas of Selangor's crown jewels.
